Slimes & Aberrations start with an attack skill called Acid Attack. Unlike Poison Attack or Disease Attack, Acid Attack isn't listed in the Skill section. What's the intended effect of Acid Attack?
I know! I was amazed that no one ever told you considering it's one of the starting skills! I had a feeling it might be defense-down since there was no defense equivalent to Curse.
(Speaking of, can negative defense levels start adding dice to the attacker's pool or does defense only get reduced to 0?)
Are you able to re-challenge an enemy you've already defeated outside of the Level Grind option? It seems you only unlock Level Grind once you've completed the fight perfectly, but I don't see any actions that mention fighting mobs again so I'm unsure if you only have one shot to unlock it.
Thanks for the speedy answer! If I could have one more question, are you able to hunt for end-of-day food and shelter in different zones if you have enough spare movement to move between them?
When you roll Fast or Heavy attack, you're instructed that you can create a new version of that skill with that modifier on it. Does this variant skill start at Level 1 (Basic) and need to be leveled separately?
Yes. It’s inherently an upgraded version of another attack (like Heavy Poison attack or Fast Current we, etc.). It gains those extra benefits, getting a chance for bonus defense/damage as well as any other status effects, so it needs to be leveled from the ground up as a kind of balancing factor.
Wow, thank you! My friend would be so happy to hear the news, bet he can't wait to play as a slime girl!
. . .
Quite a slime-obsessed fellow he is!
Anyway, I just love the game so much. It is probably one of the few that actually gives me that sense of progression. I can feel myself stronger with every upgrade and evolution.
Although still getting my ass handed as of this writing, but soon enough my power fantasy will be fulfilled hahaha!
Again, really thank you for the free copies! (´◡`)
Found out about this nifty little game via the Character Creation Podcast and I am having a lot of fun with my intrepid little insect bumbling about.
But other than the book not having any bookmarks and text not being selectable (which makes it extremely cumbersome to navigate and to create quick personal reference docs) I do have a quick question, since I'm not sure how to interpret some of the stuff about skills:
How exactly does [Humanoid] skill work in attacking? It is a boost skill and says you can 'gain an attack bonus', but does it count as a boost attack bonus or an attack skill bonus? And do weapons count as attack skills in this situation (they have the attack skill icon, so...), granting another die?
So if I have a [Humanoid] and a weapon, do I get 1 die (and if so, does it count as a boost or attack skill?) or two dice (1 from [Humanoid], 1 from weapon)? And if I also have [Magic Attack], how many dice does that give me...?
(also, I assume [Magic Attack] is the only skill that can be combined with weapons in any way, correct? i.e. I cannot use a [Poison Attack] with a heavy weapon to combine their effects?)
Basically, Humanoid allows you to use and gain bonus with equipment equal to its level. So, using a Weapon gives you an attack bonus, not a boost bonus. Weapons do not combine with other attack skills.
Magic attacks main benefit is gaining bonuses from the Magic Boost skill.
Dice gained from any single skill, if not stated elsewhere, is 1 dice, but if its level is 5 or more higher than a comparison skill (attack skill higher than defense skill, for example) it awards two dice instead.
I hope this helps! Also, download the quick start guide for more tips!
Couple of questions about the leveling twist chart. 1: Do the bonuses for level only apply when determining which chart you roll on, or do they also apply to the subchart? If it's the former, Apex Predator becomes actually impossible to roll after level 90. Same question for the +Tier when power leveling. 2: Single skill unlock should probably say 'Raise a skill you used in your last battle by one', since technically you can level up outside of a battle. 3: For new skill unlock, if you roll your starting subtype is it +1 to all skills you currently have, or +1 to all skills given to your subtype. 4: Is Improved Skill Unlock on the Master chart meant to be Improved Skill boost, or does it let you increase a skill you don't have yet?
Definitely a fun little game that is flexible enough for just about any kind of story telling ability. Even better it is a game that can be played with friends or solo.

All this time it’s been missing ;_;
Acid attack applies [Corroded] levels. Much like curse, it penalizes defense pools.

I would say it only goes to zero, though if other circumstances bring it lower (damage, attack bonus, etc.) it obviously goes into negatives then.
Cool. Thanks for the replies!

You can fight a mob over and over. Level grind is a way to speed things up in a montage type moment rather than doing fights over and over.

100%. Part of the reason for safe zones is being able to travel between them and back to reduce risk.

I'm completely mesmerized by the slimy pink lady in the game's cover, was what my friend said. He's quite a slime loving fellow.
Will there be any community copies soon? Asking for a friend.
Sales overtime have been slow enough over not updated for quite some time. There should be plenty of community copies now. Act quick :)

This is fun.
I found this game thanks to the wonderful Charakter creation cast.
But now I died and came back as a Gremlin.
Gave myself a new Name an now I have to deal with a group of five Ashdevils (imps).

1. They apply to both
2. Fair enough
3. +1 to all skills you currently possess.
4. It is an improved skill boost.
I can't find the Hit and Run skill listed in the skills section but it's referenced in multiple places. I was wondering what it actually does?
So sorry! The pdf will be updated within the hour. In the meantime, here is the relevant information.

I had access to a pre-release version and it was excellent! Worked great for a duo or a big group to play. I highly recommend this!
